Like my clients, I've been through a few career transitions, one I chose and two that were forced upon me. When I came out of college I wanted to save the world and was a social worker. After a few years I realized I couldn't save the world and I couldn't make a living wage. I returned to school, picked up a technical degree and became a technical writer for Hewlett Packard (HP).
My career thrived at HP. I was promoted 5 times and recognized 4 times for outstanding performance. I created and held 2 brand new positions. I became known for marketing insight and keen writing skills. I was asked to formulate and author crisis communications and ghost write for executive management. But the most fun I had was working with the sales force, crafting themed marketing and sales campaigns, trade shows, and user events. But, it all came to an end during the 2001 workforce reduction. While at HP I wrote resumes for friends, family, and colleagues who strongly encouraged me to open my own business. That's what I did when my HP career ended in 2001; I started Career Ink from my home in Denver, CO to help local and national job seekers achieve their career goals. And now I continue Career Ink from my home in Florida. I'm a persuasive communicator and writer, so resume writing is my perfect career because a compelling resume is the perfect example of persuasive writing.
